From a watersports practitioner's perspective, we have often been frustrated by inaccurate information on watersports appearing in "safe sex" articles and brochures, claiming that watersports is an unsafe activity.

Just like with other sexual activities, there are various factors to consider, before including various watersports activities in your sexual repertoire. And as with other sexual activities, there is also a lot of gray area. The safe sex decisions' you make should always be based on your health, the health of your sexual partners, and the number of sexual partners.

  • There is no known risk of HIV transmission through contact with urine ON or IN your body. Urine is a relatively sterile body fluid, primarily comprised of water, urea (proteins and amino acids) and uric acid. In HIV infected people, HIV cannot usual be isolated in urine, and if it is, HIV concentrations are too small to pose a threat of infection. Even if the urine contained small amounts of blood, the fragile virus would be battered by acid, heat, friction, enzymes, and dilution.

  • Piss can possibly transfer viruses and bacteria, but in general, its high acid level make it an inhospitable environment for most organisms. Cytomegalovirus (CMV) can be transmitted through urine. While many people are not adversely affect by CMV infection, others may exhibit mononucleosis-like symptoms. Theoretically, but not proven, piss can transfer any microorganism living in the urethra or in the semen. Gonorrhea, chlamydia, and hepatitis all fall into this category. If you have a cut, abrasion, or pimple, mouth sore, ... then the the possibility of transmission of other viruses and bacteria increases. Mucosal contact (the lining of the mouth or rectum) with these organisms could pose a risk for infection. Again, there is little scientific evidence to support this type of organism transfer.

  • If you have a compromised immune system, then it is more likely that your urine will contain more viral and bacteria content thereby posing more of a threat to others. If you are a partner with someone with a compromised immune system, then there is a higher risk of disease transmission.

  • Due to the concentrated levels of salts, acids, and enzymes, drinking piss can irritate your digestive and renal system. So, if you have irritable bowel syndrome, ulcers or other chronic digestive issues, you should limit your consumption of piss. Those with diabetes, impaired kidney function, high blood pressures should should consider sticking to external piss play.
  • Taking piss up the ass can irritage your colon lining, which can put you at risk to infections. This form of piss play is the most risky, because your bowels can directly absorb anyting in your partners piss, including the reidue of any drugs that they may be eliminating from their system.

The bottom line - watersports on-the-body is considered by experts to be a low risk sexual activity. Watersports in-the-body is more controversial. While there is little clinical evidence to support the argument of increased HIV infection, the theoretical possibility of HIV and other organism transfer often causes pissing in-the-body to be considered a more risky activity. Taking piss up the ass is the highest risk activity.
